Kate Evans

Kate Evans is a nature writer, freelance science journalist, and video producer who returned to Aotearoa after spending a decade abroad. As a dual citizen of New Zealand and Australia, Kate has considered both countries home. Kate writes captivating features on science, nature, culture, and food for esteemed publications like New Zealand Geographic and other magazines in New Zealand. In addition, Kate’s exceptional writing and reporting skills have garnered attention from international media outlets such as the Washington Post, National Geographic News, the Guardian, the Observer, Discover Magazine, Hakai Magazine, Undark, EOS, and the Scientific American. Kate has a background in broadcast journalism with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, and worked as a news and current affairs producer at TVNZ, showcasing their commitment to delivering informative content. Stemming from her Churchill Fellowship, Kate worked on her first book, which explores her deep admiration for the feijoa – her favorite fruit in the world.

To research her first book, a ‘biography’ of the feijoa, unravelling the history and culture of the fruit and its journey from South America to New Zealand.
